Our comprehensive FLT Forklift Truck / Industrial Forklift Training Course covers both theory and practical skills. Modules include:

Training Course Requirements

FLT Forklift Training Course Requirements

There are no formal educational requirements, but participants must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Have a good understanding of English for safety instructions.
  • Be medically fit to operate machinery.
  • Bring a valid photo ID (e.g. driver’s licence or passport).

All personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety boots and high-vis vests, should be worn during training.

Legal Information

Under the New Code of Practice September 2025, employers are legally obliged to ensure that all forklift operators are adequately trained and competent. Forklifts are classed as “work equipment”, meaning training is mandatory under Irish law. Employers must ensure operators are familiar with the vehicle, understand its controls, and can perform pre-use checks in line with the manufacturer’s instructions. Failure to comply can lead to enforcement action by the Health and Safety Authority (HSA). More details are available at www.hsa.ie.
